STERILE PROCESSING TECHNICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM
The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) Training Program is a program that consists of 120 training hours; 80 hours of instruction and 40 hours of skills training. This program will help students in the best practices for their profession.
The course is designed to prepare qualified individuals to become safe and competent SPT in a variety of healthcare facilities.
Upon completion of the program, the students will be able to learn carefully how to decontaminate, inspect, assemble and sterilize instruments and surgical trays, learn how to manage inventory control, order supplies, inspect, maintain, deliver and retrieve equipment and instruments for the surgery suites, emergency rooms and intensive care units. The curriculum prepares them to take the program competency evaluation for the board examination.
Upon successfully completion of the course, the students will receive a Certificate of Completion. This program will prepare the students to sit and take the board examination to be conducted by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD).
After passing the board examination, the successful certified students will then be qualified to be placed on an Externship Program to a facility in contract agreement with Niles College.
